Christiane Amanpour, Chief International Correspondent for CNN and host for CNNi, covers the latest and all-time issue of football. She sits and talks with retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre and Dr. Bennet Omalu regarding the risks and severity of being tackled. Dr. Omalu states, “Stanford University showed that in just one game of football, a player is suffering an impact of 60 to 65,000 blows to the head. Some of the balls are like a car at 60-70 mph slamming into a brick wall… All you need to damage your brain is one violent blow.” I don’t think many understand how dangerous football really is. Yes, it’s a sport that’s enjoyed by many and is entertainment for Sunday’s but is the sport really worth the repercussions? Hall of Fame quarterback, Brett Favre says, “Football is here to stay and concussions is a very serious issue and once a concussion happens it already happened. The NFL needs to spend more money, not just on the helmets but on the treatment side of it.” As Amanpour continues to tackle the problem at hand, she agrees that concussions are a big concern.
