If you are not keeping up with Eric Eyre and his
Pulitzer Prize winning journalism on the opioid crisis, you are missing
out. This epidemic shows no signs of
slowing down despite the gigantic spotlight that has been thrust upon it. Eric writes for the Charleston
Gazette-Mail. In an article posted
January 29, 2018, Eric investigates out-of-state drug companies who have
shipped 20.8 million prescription painkillers to two pharmacies in a West
Virgina town of 2,900 people. In
addition, the pharmacies are only 4 blocks apart! Eric quotes lawmakers Greg Walden, R-Oreg. and
Frank Pallone, Jr., D-NJ., in a joint statement as saying, “These numbers are
outrageous, and we will get to the bottom of how this destruction was able to be
unleased across West Virginia.” I
believe boots on the ground, investigative journalism is one way to fight this
epidemic. The picture I have used is from AP files. [1 picture, 2 links, 1 quotation, 141 words]
