Bangladeshi Journalist Fatally Shot


Abdul Hakim Shimul was killed on February 3rd, 2017 from gunshot wounds while covering political unrest between the two political parties of Bangladesh. The supporters of northern Bangladeshi city Shahjadpur mayor's supporters broke out into violence with their rival party members. Shimul was shot in the head and face, he was immediately taken to a local clinic. He died while he being was moved to the Dhaka Medical College situated in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Many journalists gathered around the Press Club in Dhaka and protested against the death of an innocent man and wanted swift justice. According to Steve Butler, "This shooting took place before many witnesses, and police have reportedly seized the weapon and identified its owner. There can be no excuse for failing to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice." The journalists association has also called a strike on the city were Shimul was killed.
