The world's last male northern white rhino has died. Sudan lived to be 45 years old. He lived for the last decade of his life on a 700 acre enclosure in Mount Kenya with armed guards protecting him 24/7. He was protected so closely due to poachers who believe rhinos horns cure various ailments. Sudan left his daughter Najin, 28, and granddaughter Fatu, 17, behind. An attempt for a son was slowed to a halt as he grew older and more complications arose. "During his final years he was not able to naturally mount a female and suffered from a low sperm count, which made his ability to procreate difficult." However there is still hope. Many believe that the answer to saving the Northern White Rhinos lie in sperm that was frozen. Hopefully scientist will find a way to to use that and save this beautiful species from going extinct.
