Brazil's Ex-President Will Not Surrender

Ex-Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva was sentenced to twelve years in jail for charges of corruption. Currently he is appealing these charges, but the Supreme Court does not want him to be free while the appeal process in underway. He is staying in the metalworkers' union in Sao Paulo. After Lula left office in 2014, prosecutors started investigating allegations that Lula and several other top politicians had been accepting bribes from a state oil company in return for awarding contracts to construction firms. "Lula himself was convicted of receiving a renovated beachfront apartment worth some $1.1 million as a bribe by engineering firm OAS.
