Banning Together

This past June Mexico City brought together journalists, human rights activists, and civil society groups from all over Mexico to have a round table discussion about how to protect journalist.  "According to the Committee o Protect Journalists, at least 40 journalists have been killed since 1992 because of their work," They are being gunned down in their own cities in front of their neighbors, family, and sometimes their own children.  In Mexico it is just as dangerous to be a journalists as countries that are at war. Herika Martinez Prado, a journalist that worked beside other journalists that were later gunned down said, "If you kill a journalist, it's often society that loses the most.  In the end, we are the ones who hold government accountable, cover organized crime and show our faces." By holding summits like these Mexico's journalists are opening the door for further discussion and hopefully laws that will protect them to report the truth and better their society.
