Broken Vertebra? No Biggie
In an article by Vanessa Romo, she described Olympian, Markus Schairer's immense fall during a men's cross race in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Competing in the Olympics for the third time, the thirty-year-old "fractured his fifth cervical vertebra during the fall" in the men's cross quarterfinals. Schairer lost control during one of his jumps, roughly landing on his back. The impact of the fall caused the young Austrian snowboarder to break his neck. Though he was in a great deal of pain, the athlete still stood up and completed the race. Upon analysis, there were no "neurological impairments" to be found.
