A previous egg donor and
journalist weasels her way into a donor egg meeting where the public is not
welcome. “I kept pestering the conference coordinator until she relented and
let me come.” She wanted to find out who is reaping the cost reward for these
transactions and if there are any long term effects of donating. She details
the experience of her egg donation, how she was considered a super donor due to
her high test scores and athletic body. She learns tons of interesting
information in the meeting but finds it disturbing how few studies are done on
the health effects of donating, basically saying that nothing is for certain and
that it may or may not lead to infertility or cancer. She concludes that this
industry is more focused on creating embryos in a lab for profit rather than
the life of its participants.
