Endorsement Jail Time Deal?

Peter Sblendorio of the New York Daily News has reported that actor Pierce Brosnan has just found out something that none of us probably knew. It is illegal to advertise tobacco products in India.
The former James Bond is going to have to use all his tricks to get away from the India Health Department after his image was tied to a company called Pan Bahar that advertised its products in Delhi, India. Brosnan told People Magazine that the use of his image for that ad was "unauthorized" and that "I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one's health" ( People, October 2016).
It is apparently a pretty serious deal, as it carries a penalty of up to two years in jail and a fine if Brosnan is guilty. I find it strange though that the company is not mentioned as being in trouble for the ad. The company does say that Brosnan was never deceived and that further it should not be connected with tobacco either, but where is the outrage for the company?
Could you imagine if this type of thing happened in America? Of course, we have freedom of speech and all, but hypothetically, what if we could fine and jail celebrities for endorsing dangerous things? If you want to see more of the story follow this link:
