Russian President Vladimir Putin recently won a resounding
victory in the Presidential Election in his country. This particular election
has been a source of great tension internationally, as many accusations of
corruption have been offered towards the newly re-elected Russian President.
Nationally, however, the election appears to be much calmer and collected. Reuters
reports that in the days leading up to the election Putin was “expected to win
a fourth term in office with 69 percent of the vote.” This statistic highlights
the difference in perception between international and national opinions of
Putin. Reuters goes on to say how many Russian citizens believe in Putin as
more than just a Russian politician, but also possessing “‘messianic qualities.’” Reuters captures these citizens through putting their personal
socioeconomic positions and political views on display.
