According to the Columbia Journalism Review in an article titled, The media today: Russian journalists join #MeToo, as parliament looks away, written by Alexandria Neason, a new movement has begun. This #MeToo movement all began once some brave female journalists reported on Harvey Weinstein (a senior lawmaker in Russia) who sexually harassed these brave women. This man calls female journalists to his chamber and “pounces” on them. “In all, three female journalists eventually stepped forward with allegations against Slutsky. Kotrikadze recounted her experience to CNN, saying that Slutsky invited her into his office and without provocation pushed her against a wall, attempting to kiss her” (Alexandria Nelson, 2018). The fact that most of these female reporters along with others reported Slutsky as unnamed, indicates how powerful this guy really is. You have to keep in mind that reporters lose their jobs most of the time in cases like this, especially if these same reporters are dealing with this senior lawmaker in Russia. Even Putin didn’t comment, because he didn’t want to get his hands sticky in this situation. This is because everyone who is close to Weinstein knows his famous reputation regarding sexual harassment. The situation has gotten so bad that some of the most major news outlets are refusing to send their reporters out there to him. So basically this new movement is against dirty minded men and political leaders like him that think that they can get away with such dirty acts. This movement has spread worldwide and reporters along with other people are showing that no one messes with their rights.
