In Duisburg, Germany, Sally McGrane a journalist for NY Times wrote an article about a museum director Sybille Kastner. Kastner started art tours specifically with people who have dementia and aphasia. Even though these people have difficulty expressing themselves due to their predicaments it seems that through art communication become easier. Kastner also noticed that people with dementia " have an easier time of simply reacting emotionally to what they see" than people without dementia (McGrane). McGrane then spends the rest of the article explaining the extraordinary effects that art has on dementia. For example, Kastner also noted those people with dementia may enjoy looking at and making art, even if they were not interested in it when they were well. This is not in the article but this reminds me of a documentary called "Alive Inside" where they played music for dementia patients and the results were astonishing. I linked a clip of it also ( second link)
