
In an
article by Merrit Kennedy and Christopher
Joyce from NPR, the two reporters describe the newly found information on the
"Great Pacific Garbage Patch," as depicted in an article from "Nature
Scientific Reports." Throughout their research, scientists estimated
"79,000 tons of plastic" found in the Pacific between California and
Hawaii. This number is so incredible, because there is no human life between
the two states. But in the "8 million tons" of garbage that is thrown
into the oceans each year, much of it can be found on the sea bed, in the animals’
stomachs, or floating in the garbage patch.
