World’s Happiest Country also has no Carbon Emissions
The kingdom of Bhutan, located south of Himalayan and north
of India is featured in an article called World’s
Happiest Country Also Has No Carbon Emissions. This remote country was completely isolated from
visitors before 1974 and even now, the very few visitors that get in need to
pay.
60 percent of the forests in Bhutan are protected and citizens
are encouraged to drive electric cars and use public transportation. Additionally to these efforts, we can say
that Bhutan “not
only remains carbon neutral, but also become a carbon “sink”. That is through its abundant forests, Bhutan
absorbs more carbon from the air than it releases.”
Ciril Jazbec, a Slovenian photographer, is one of the luckiest
people who has visited this beautiful country and documented this green
consciousness. Regretfully, no matter
the efforts, “Bhutan’s
glaciers are melting, leading to flash floods, and rainy seasons are becoming
more irregular, leading to water scarcity during dry seasons.” (1 image, 3 links, 2 quotations, 171 words)
