On March 16, 2018, March Madness history was made. March Madness is perhaps among one of the most highly anticipated sporting events each year, and for the first time a no. 16 seed pulled off the defeat of the no. 1 seed in the tournament- UMBC beat Virginia. A win sure to go down as a warning never to underestimate the power of the underdog role. Although many of the die-hard collegiate basketball fans attribute this historic upset to the lousy performance put on by the Cavaliers, the Retrievers aren’t listening to it, as they continue to have pride in their 74-54 win. Simply put by point-guard Jairus Lyles: “We just wanted to make history today.”
