Slovakian reporter investigating tax fraud linked to government shot dead at home
Jan Kuciak, 27, and his girlfriend were shot and killed at their home 40 miles east of Braitslava. Jan was a investigative journalist and was thought to be shot for his work on suspected tax fraud. His last story was published in early February which focused on suspected tax evasion connected to a luxury apartment complex with links to the Slovak government. Supposedly the killings were "likely to have something to do with his investigative activities" (Batchelor) that had to do with an unprecedented attack on freedom of the press and democracy in Slovakia.
