The Beautiful Bears Of British Columbia
In a secluded, lush forest, Paul Nicken documents the beauty of Spirit Bears and their rarity in the world. In reality, these Spirit Bears also known as Kermode Bears are actually a sub-species of the Black Bear and are only found in British Columbia. Paul Nicken goes on to describe these beautiful Bears and intriguing information he learned about the bears in his journey. The most intriguing being that conservation efforts for Grizzly Bears have negatively affected the Kermode Bears. Being the larger and more aggressive of the two species Grizzly's easily pushed Kermode Bears away from optimal fishing spots. This increase in competition has transformed the "Land Of The Spirit Bear" and makes it harder for Kermode Bears to contest the already small real estate they have (Nicken). I thought this fact was the most interesting because in the successful attempt to help a threatened species they indirectly hurt Kermode Bears. In the end, Paul Nicken enjoyed his journey in Canada and is awed by the Spirit Bears stunning appearance.
