In November of last year, a group of scientists traveled to a remote area in Brazil, which is home to the tallest mountain in the country. Usually, that area of Brazil is off-limits to tourists/visitors, but these scientists were given special permission to document the rare, indigenous species that live there. According to an article by the BBC regarding the expedition, "Ground troops and local guides from the Yanomami ethnic group assisted the scientists’ one-month journey to and around the mountain." The indigenous Yanomami were the people who authorized the scientists to study the area. The Brazilian army traveled with them for protection. The scientists discovered many new species of frogs, toads, lizards, and even owls.
