CPJ: Committee to Protect Journalists
The CPJ is an organization designed to protect and draw attention to the abuse, imprisonment and killing of hundreds journalists worldwide every year. It is a nonprofit with locations around the world including New York City, Bogota, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Nairobi, Bangkok, London, and Istanbul. When word of a journalist being in danger reaches one of the many centers, quick and thorough mobilization takes place in order to protect those in danger. However, not all are able to be helped. There is a listing of all the journalists who have died or been killed during the year and their cause of death. The CPJ is dedicated to advocacy of journalists who have passed and those who continue to do their sometimes life-threatening jobs. The site issue this powerful message: “Murder is the ultimate form of censorship. Hundreds of journalists are murdered, but in nine out of 10 cases their killers go free. CPJ is waging a global campaign against impunity. Join us. Raise your voice. Speak out for justice.” (1 image, 1 quotation, 1 link, 171 words)
