Future in Medicine

Dr. Jay-Sheree Allen is a family medicine resident physician at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Jay is also a resident of the ABS News Medical Unit, so in his writing it is obvious why he is intelligent on the subject. Jay writes about an experimental treatment for Alzheimer’s patients that has successfully reversed the disease in mice. “The deletion of just a single enzyme saw the near total reversal of the deposition of amyloid plaques found in brains of those with Alzheimer's, improving cognitive functions in the mouse subjects.” This statement is from the Journal of Experimental Medicine from the research done at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Allen goes to further explain the caution of this process due to the fact that many diseases are easily cured in mice while the same process does not help humans. Overall Dr. Allen wants the world to know about the work scientists and medical students are doing to make a brighter future.
