Hispanic Group Protests at Oscar Luncheon by Brooks Barnes

Barnes reports about the protest that took place outside an Oscar luncheon. The protest was to have more Hispanics in films and for some of them to be nominated for the Oscar’s “3 percent of speaking characters in films during the last decade were Latino”. There has only ever been one man to win an Oscar and that was back in 1951 since then there still has not been a Hispanic woman to be “named best actress.” Many protesters want to get the point across that Hispanics are human beings and are minorities that do not get to see themselves on the screen. The academy’s president John Bailey said: “work to increase diversity” continues.
