Leading Wildlife Trade Investigator Violently Killed in Kenya by Jani Actman

Jani Actman reported an article about a man named Esmond Bradley Martin who was known for his “research into helping to end the slaughter of elephants and rhinos”. On Sunday, February 4th Martin was found dead by his wife in their home Nairobi, Kenya with a stab wound to the neck. Martin had launched many investigations regarding the crime in wildlife since the 1970s. Countless times Martin put his life on the line during investigations to obtain information over the wildlife trafficking. He would sometimes pose as a buyer of rhino horns and ivory to gather information over prices. Philip Muruthi, who is vice president of species protection for the African Wildlife Foundation said: “It’s a tragedy and a setback, he brought the data”. Martin strived to inform people how the market was running and was a vital asset to those investigating the ivory trade.
