Rachel Martin has been regularly involved
in both defense and intelligence matters for NPR as their National Security
Correspondent, traveling often to Iraq and Afghanistan. As she mentions that
she’s “Getting up way too early so u don’t have to!” Her interest in foreign
affairs continue the same path as she recently interviewed Atia Abawi who has
made a career covering news in the middle east including Iraq and Afghanistan.
Martin’s interview leads to Abawi’s new book, “A Land of Permanent Goodbyes”
which concentrates on the refugees that have recently have been forced to flee
Syria due to the inescapable war. Abawi shares a personal experience as an
inspiration to her book as her parents fled from the soviet invasion and was
born a refugee in Germany. Similarly, to Martin Abawi hopes spread awareness
and make a difference in the countries of permanent goodbyes. [1 image, 1 link,
