24 Journalists Imprisoned in Turkey

The New York Times reports, “ A Turkish court sentenced 24 journalists to prison on Friday, ruling that they were linked to a religious sect that the government calls a terrorist group.” They worked for news organizations that Fethullah Gullen supports.Turkey believes that Gullen wants to overthrow Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The president arrested thousands of people suspected of terrorism. The majority of the journalists were sentenced to around 7 years in prison. Turkey has even sentenced journalists to life in prison. A Turkish pop singer was even charged and thrown in prison. Turkey is not having any suspicious behavior allowed in its country. [1 link, 1 image, 105 words, 1 quote]
