March 20, 2018, sixteen-year-old Jaelynn Willey was shot and critically injured during an incredibly cruel school shooting by another student. This past week Jaelynn’s family prayed for her recovery, but her health took a turn when she was pronounced brain dead on March 22, 2018. In an article by Merrit Kennedy from NPR, she writes on the words spoken by Jaelynn’s mother during a press conference on the event, to let the world know that seventeen-year-old Austin Rollins “took everything from [their] lives.” The tragic loss of the second-eldest of nine children did not appear to be “a random act of violence.”
