Behind Dan Rather's popularity

Dan Rather was a very big journalist before he retired. He was on CBS Evening News for 24 years, which is a long time to have just one job. In his interview with Slate.com, he revealed his way of getting popular and being famous. He told how he grew up in Houston, in a very conservative part. He talked about his "first Klan rally: the burning cross, the pure hatred, a society so far from the ideals of American democracy [he] had been taught in school" (Lithwick.) He then goes on to talk about how he became a reporter and how he rose up in the ranks. Also included is how now he uses his own Facebook page to keep communicating with his audience and help people see the truth.
