Dutch Journalist Expelled From Turkey

Frederike Geerdink moved to Istanbul in 2006 to become a foreign correspondent and later found an interest in writing about the country's repressed Kurdish minority. At that time Turkey was pursuing a place in the European Union and ease the pressures with the Kurds. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported a reform that allowed for a 24-hour language news network as well as calming down the restrictions towards them. However, a rebel group called PKK or Workers' Party demanded for a "ceasefire in its long-running insurgency against the Turkish government." Geerdink decided to move to Diyarbakir which is mainly a Kurdish city and wrote about the Turkish airstrike called "The Boys Are Dead."
