Mexican Journalist Shot Dead in Gulf state of Veracruz

At least three journalists were killed in Veracruz state last year.

Mexican Journalist Leobardo Vazquez, was shot dead Thursday night on March 22, 2018, at a taco stand he ran in Veracruz. Veracruz is an area known to have an eccentric night life and drug violence. Vazquez was the author of an online news outlet called the Enlace Informative Regional and was heavily involved in the media. The motive is currently unknown but, according to an article by the Guardian "Mexican media reported he has received threats over his reporting on an illegal land “invasion” by squatters." Mexico is known to be a rough place for journalists who report on crimes according to Aljazeera, "Mexico was the most dangerous place to be a journalist in 2017, ahead of Iraq and Syria, with 14 deaths, according to the International Press Institute."
